Orkney Fishermen’s Society have just opened a new fish shop, close to the crab processing factory in Stromness.

Orkney Fishermen’s Society was established in 1953. They began by exporting live lobster and the business has grown to become one of the foremost processors of brown crab in the UK.

Still a co-operative owned largely by inshore fishermen the Orkney Fishermen’s Society is now internationally recognised as being among the leaders in crab processing, producing a range of products for retail, wholesale and export markets.

Throughout the food industry, the Orkney name has become synonymous with the highest quality, both in terms of products and the level of service offered to customers.

Commitment to quality is backed up by commitment to sustainable fishing. The co-operative is a key supporter of Orkney Sustainable Fisheries Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation which runs the local lobster hatchery and is engaged in various initiatives relating to the long-term security of inshore fishing in the islands.
